Led by Gine on People’s Choice musician of the year, Juanita Clarke, Vibestry is Barbados’ only all-women group. This group boasts the vocals of Dorhonda Smith, Jeliah Boyce and Jessica Hunte and the incomparable musicianship of Ashlee Tang, Lynelle Russell and Shennai Brathwaite. Mahalia Cummins leads the rendition of Well Done by Dr. The Most Honourable Anthony “Gabby” Carter at the Opening Ceremony of the 14th Caribbean Institute in Gender and Development in July 2021. The song was dedicated to Professor Eudine Barriteau on the eve of her retirement.

On behalf of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, The Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit embarked on an initiative to certify 500 employees and stakeholders of the Barbados Water Authority in Gender and Infrastructure. This video is one of the training materials. The Gender and Infrastructure certificate is one component of the multifaceted Water Sector Resilience Nexus for Sustainability in Barbados (WSRN S-Barbados), which is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The Gender and Infrastructure Project Team of Leisa Perch, Dr. Daniele Bobb and Leigh-Ann Worrell is lead by Dr. Tonya Haynes. Barbados is hosted the fifteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in October 2021. For the first time in UNCTAD’s 56-year history there was a forum dedicated to Gender and Development. This video highlights the ingenuity of women artists, the political economy of the creative industries and how artists are navigating the challenges of the pandemic. With moving visual story-telling, we centre the artistic, economic, and spiritual value of handmade and artist-made products with powerful images of artists at work. Join these Barbadian women from different generations, working in diverse media in the creative industries as the offer insights into their creative practice. Professor The Most Honourable V. Eudine Barriteau, Professor of Gender and Public Policy and Lead Organiser of the UNCTAD XV Gender and Development Forum moderates the discussion on Rethinking Sustainability, Economy and Ecology from the perspective of Indigenous Knowledge and Technologies. The UN, and UNCTAD as one of its principal institutions, are dedicated to achieving its 17 sustainable development goals introduced in 2015 as the blue print to achieving a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030. The Gender and Development Forum believes indigenous knowledge and technologies are at the core of achieving a sustainable future for all. · But what do we mean by indigenous knowledge and technologies? · What are the approaches, policies and practices UNCTAD should promote in rethinking sustainable development? · What recommendations can our experts make to UNCTAD to ensure economies, the environment and people benefit from harmonious relationships among people, our planet and our techniques of producing?

Our first presenter is Her Excellency, Lady Froyla Tzalam, an author, activist, researcher and first indigenous woman to be appointed Governor General of Belize. Her Excellency is a Mopan Maya woman who strives to forge understanding and tolerance between the indigenous and industrialised worlds.

Ms Alisi Rabukawaga-Nacewa is a climate activist and one of Fiji’s leading Ocean Experts working tirelessly to promote traditional sustainable shipping and ocean protection.
