The Caribbean Institute in Gender and Development (CIGAD) Seed Grants Programme provides funding, community and technical support to innovative community-based projects, developed as part of the programme or by CIGAD alumni.
Background:
CIGAD alumni have created sustainable initiatives aimed at transforming their communities and based on principles of gender justice, participation and inclusivity. Highlighted among these projects are a life-skills based intervention for incarcerated men in Antigua and Barbuda, a similar project for incarcerated women in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a documentary and discussion guide on women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights in Belize (which we use as a teaching tool in CIGAD), as well as a programme for adolescent mothers focused on school re-entry and completion in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The CIGAD Small Grants programme provides funding support, community and technical assistance to CIGAD alumni.
Objectives:
In 2018, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies inaugurated the CIGAD Seed Grants programme with the following objectives:
- To provide funding to pilot innovative initiatives
- To provide funding to support the sustainability of existing initiatives
- To provide technical support to civil society organizations on all aspects of programme conceptualization, design, management and evaluation
- To build the capacity of government and civil society actors to effect change
- To foster a regional network of community-based actors
- To monitor, evaluate and track the impact of CIGAD on Caribbean communities
